Teaching to Transgress. Towards Critical and Socially Engaged Somatic Practices

During the 2000s, a group of dancers and somatic practitioners held somatic practices worskhops for people concerned with AIDS in the Paris region. This project offers the opportunity to elicit the conditions for somatics to become empowering practices, within institutional contexts of social control upon “vulnerable” people. Learning to transgress means to shape those practices into a form of transgression of care facilities; and this implies transgressing other norms, internal to somatic practices, by instilling in them knowledge borrowed to AIDS activists.
