Dancing in the Middle of Social Upheaval: Danza del derecho de vivir en paz (2019)

Danza del derecho de vivir en paz (2019), created by the Chilean choreographer Valentina Pavez with dancers belonging to several generations in Chile, interlaces with the song El derecho de vivir en paz by Víctor Jara (1932-1973) and is integral part of the demonstrations of the so called estallido social chileno (Chilean social upheaval) that unfolded in October 2019. This choreography embodies a two-fold struggle, reflecting the “living traces” of the Jooss-Leeder system (born in Germany, 1927) that are today present “differently” through Chilean corporeities: reinterpreted and nourished by their own stories and traditions.
