The new everyday life order. How to tidy up your home

By Thierry Pillon
English

For several years now handbooks have been flourishing that offer methods for tidying up one’s home. These publications partake of the body of literature intended to educate women to housekeeping. But the advice for keeping one’s home tidy partly renew the genre. They are structured identically: observe the untidy home, impose a new rational order and relie on the thrill given by commodities. These volumes also convey a new ideology: household education pertains to self-development. Tidying up one’s home becomes a source of elation and bolsters one’s personality on a daily basis. As such, these books latch on to the tenets of the ideology of personal development.
