Fiat Luxury

By Mariette Darrigrand
English

The word “luxury” has always been related to lux: “light” in Latin. As much analogical as etymological, this filiation should be complemented with other semantic sources from several Latin verbs presenting a luxi form (in the perfect tense). Thus, it appears that significant ancestral metaphors are at work and continue to enrich the notion. And by considering them as some unconscious collective memory, the luxury industry is renewing itself nowadays.
