If cohabitation has been flourishing a concept, that of neighborhood has remained quite marginal. In France, conflicts between neighbours have largely prevailed in the literature, leading to the idea that neighbourhood equates to communalism where, at best, similar people live together and, at worst, where gang wars erupt. Yet the concept of neighborhood is valuable on many respects. This article intends to show that starting from defining it as mere geographical vicinity neighborhood summons an opening of the city onto nature as well as solutions for multi-species coexistence.
