An Iconography of Night in Mesoamerica. Visions and Dreams of Otomi Children of the Eastern Sierra Madre

By Jacques Galinier
English

We will consider a set of narrative and iconographic materials on the theme of night produced by schoolchildren from an Otomi village in the eastern Sierra Madre (Mexico). This material will make it possible to examine infantile theories in the construction of cosmological knowledge, conceived as a matrix of that of adults. The discussion will focus on the invention of a universal subject, conflated with the figure of the Devil, as the source, the primary principle of knowledge and distributor of dream images.
