Collecting, commenting, conveying dreams. The Magazine of the science of the soul derived from inner experience (1783-1793)
By Claire Gantet
English
The Magazine of the science of the soul derived from inner experience is regarded as the first psychology journal. It was edited by Berliner Enlightenment exponents whose aim was to enlighten the “individual suffering” and free them from their misfortune : the journal had a public and even social mission. It functioned as an open forum to share and exchange personal stories and individual reflections of the publishers and of the readers. Dreams were one of its main subjects. This contribution discusses the various techniques used to collect, comment and convey recollections of dreams collectively.
