Stigmatization and deportation of migrants: A new form of racism?

By Claude Calame
English

Exiles and refugees are driven into precarious conditions of life through wars, different forms of repression, the absence of social services, unemployment, and poverty. Sometimes they seek refuge in the richer countries of the North, particularly the European Union. They come from various countries, with different cultures and they are of various social backgrounds. The discriminations, of which they are victims, imply that they will be deported and be dehumanized. Is that a form of generalized racism?
