Leaving the company of one’s fellow humans and hiding out in the depths of the earth: that is what some men and women do, as they go down and occupy the undergrounds of metropolises, from Paris to New York City. Chantal Lasbats has thrusted her video camera down into the guts of Manhattan, and met people living there in the dark. Her logbook written during the shooting of her film is presented here. And she invites the reader to explore the depths of the city and of the souls, paying homage to those who made their home and shelter deep down there.
