The contemporary culture of rape

Staging, sign of domination, weapon in time of war

In spite of the growing judicialization of sexual crimes, the occurrences of rapes in time of peace and war do not seem to decrease in contemporary societies. This study aims to include this issue into a particular cultural context. The current emphasis on the esthetics of violent sexuality in the production of images, where “making love” is a cultural injunction, in connection with the powerful imposition of historical domination (Shifting Baseliness), is studied in order to understand why sexuality is turned into the weapon of “making hatred”.
