Miskitus human rights activists in Nicaragua

By Gilles Bataillon
English

How has the language of human rights become the political language of the activists defending the rights of the Amerindian communities (Miskito and Mayangnas) in Nicaragua? Actively participating in today’s protest movements against President Daniel Ortega, these activists entertain a particular history rooted in the history of the Moravian Church and its work of empowerment, as well as in a large series of actions carried out together with multiple human rights organizations in the 1980s-1990s.
