The cinematographic sound ambiances are relatively recent if placed in relation to the establishing of sound cinema. In the wake of technological developments and innovative working procedures, they were able to emerge, in their present form, only from the 1980s onwards. Drawing on comments and reflections of many professionals, this paper endeavors to better understand the structure and the various usages of these sound ambiances in movies.
