Climate Change, a Collective “Great Scare”?
By Martin de La Soudière
English
This issue could not elude to tackle the prospect of climate change. It will be addressed here through the lens of history and sociology, refusing to enter the debate, let alone taking side in the current controversies, that surrounds this subject. It will simply expose and give the reasons why it is not succeeding in securing a place in the public opinion as a new, paramount, collective scare, but emerges as a mere concern, as the expression and case study of the growing “eco-anxiety” we are experiencing Hardly visible or totally invisible, climate change cannot be seen (yet?): we think about it, but then forget it, or even challenge its very existence.
