The multiplication of narrative sources in the last two centuries of the Middle Ages and in early modern times allows us to understand, thanks to the example of the city of Metz and its surrounding low land, what hitherto escaped the historical analysis : folk meteorology, that is to say the popular knowledge and beliefs of the majority of society on atmospheric phenomena.
