Reindeer Herders’ Perceptions in Finnish Lapland
By Élise Lépy
English

This article focuses on reindeer herders’ weather perceptions in Finnish Lapland. It draws its methods and results from a wider project (CLICHE) which dealt with the impacts of climate variability on reindeer herding communities and their natural environment. The project aimed at exploring adaptation strategies to guarantee the economic future of this ancient livelihood. The main objective of the present study is to analyse the weather perceptions through reindeer herder’s discourses, and to determine the optimal weather conditions for the different seasonal stages of reindeer herding.
