The Yunyang Museum (Chongqing) proposes an exhibition dedicated to the planned migration induced by the Three Gorges Dam that has involved one in six people in the county. Based on a one-month ethnographic investigation conducted in 2014, the analysis focuses on expressions of the local visitors’ subjectivity confronted with the scenography’s elements related to the families’ transfer into remote provinces. Memories seem to have crystallized around three intertwined topics: a forced departure from the native land, the suffering of those who have left, and the splintering of the social body.
