The first Belgian monument which pays tribute to the Spanish immigration, when the city welcomed the migrants who fled Franco and his dictatorship, was unveiled in Liège in October 2010. This article puts in perspective the genesis of the collective “Generación Lorca”–who managed the project–and reports its evolution, focusing especially on the changes in the cultural identity which were put forward to benefit from the visibility and the recognition attached to the monument in the local community.
