The Countryside of Poverty

This paper draws on a three year ethnographic investigation on rural impoverishment in a disadvantaged county located in North Picardie (a northern region of France). It intends to show how the local handling of poverty on the one hand, and the specificities of village life on the other alter the experience of people in need. This study sheds light on a territorialized experience of poverty in a rural context.
