Medical illustration is a unique discipline joining art and science. It consists in visualizing medical concepts such as anatomy or surgery and therefore meeting important communication needs in scientific fields. Medical illustrators observe cadavers to learn and draw the anatomy, a central issue in their training and practice. To be allowed into premises where bodies are dissected (within medical institutions, universities, with specific regulations), the artist is required to be committed to medicine.
