Dramatic Writing and Performance
By Joseph Danan
English
The issue of performance encompasses contemporary theatre. The rejection of mimesis, the quest for “Live” and “Real Effects” are its main characteristics. It is not the legitimacy of the text that is questioned, as it has sometimes hastily been claimed , but that of the “Play” as a consistent element of this new dramatic order. Under what conditions can dramatic writing still be effective in the present context? Probably in fundamentally relinquishingits mimetic dimension.
