Limitations and Successes of a Challenge

Over half a century after the appearance of the term “Performance” to describe a form of art—initially visual and then rapidly cross-disciplinary—, this article endeavors to address its expected outcomes (critique of the capitalist market system, departure from the art gallery system) and present results, including performance Museums. In order to achieve this, the article reviews the key features of performance: ephemerality, links to politics, the need for renewal, and its relationship with the body, time and space.
