Following the path opened by Jean-Joseph Goux, we suggest to analyze money and its recent transformations as a mirror of the aspirations and dynamics of contemporary societies. How can the end of the Gold Exchange Standard, and the disconnection between money and any external referent, enlighten us on the relationship our society entertains with material resources and nature? How does this help us understand the origin and basis of the environmental crisis our societies are facing?
