By Jacques CheyronnaudEnglish
Sound ontologies are fashioned on a daily basis from input that we are able to hear. We usually classify them in encompassing categories with evaluative implication, such as “music,” “silence,” or “noise.” This paper addresses some of the ordinary uses of the term “noise” in its critical load and its dimension of uncertainty. It provides a useful resource in identifying sound events–?often by shuffling causes and effects–?so that we can reveal the state of inconvenience noises can produce.
