How does “urban furniture” resonate for pedestrians who stroll along city streets? Both pleasurable and unpleasant perceptions came to light as expressed in this study of how pedestrians noticed sounds, echoes, dissonance, and interferences from everyday objects encountered while they were strolling in the city. All these noises and sounds constitute a landscape which enhances or hinders people’s comprehension, use of public space, or pleasure. What would be a harmonious and efficient “walkability”? Leaders and industrial designers are urged to take these factors into account and reflect on the link between perception and situation.
