The Computer Age and Uses of Computing

By Claire Lobet-Maris
English

The sociological relation between age and ICT use is not obvious: age belongs to the collective configuration of social and biological determinants, whereas the use of ICTs is analyzed according to an individualistic tradition based on the actor’s autonomy and a logic of appropriation. However, this interaction, extensively developed in empirical research and often inspired by social constructivism, epitomizes our advanced modernity. Based on those studies, the author opens up a perspective for the exploration of new research avenues.
