Places, Bonds, and Legends
Spaces, Tropisms, and Touristic Attractions
By Jean-Didier UrbainEnglish
With expanse as its raw material (void, the desert, nature) space is, strictly speaking, a constructed area (a scenery, a stage, a territory) and the scene or place a space dramatized by a story, a role, and a purpose. Space thus becomes a scene by its dramatization through a legend, scriptwriting, and which is densified by its diegesis. Space is occupied and filled up with a narrative. We shall therefore make a distinction, in function of the quest of a narrative vision or not, between touring for spaces and touring for scenes and consider that a touristic no-place is a space deprived of (hi)story.
