The Body-Ear of Electronic Music

A Sensual Anthropological Approach
By Anne-Sophie Sayeux
English

Techno music (jungle, breakbeat, hardtek, and drum and bass) offers perhaps another relationship to listening than the simple auditory sphere. These sounds resound with a common sensorium constructed around working culture. Acoustical prehension occurs through the body, making it entirely vibrate. It’s the vibratory sense which is solicited for this music of dance, mobilizing the organism completely so as to transform it into the body-ear.
