Body and Metamorphosis in an Amerindian Society: The Toba of Gran Chaco

In this text we analyze the characteristics of nonhuman beings among the Toba (Qom) people of the Grand Chaco. The aim is to study the metamorphic character of the body and the sensorial relations between humans and nonhumans. We will show that non-human beings are considered by humans as persons because of their social life and of the possession of some bodily aptitudes. We also show some characteristics of the nonhuman body that create important differences with the human body.
