We show how the labor market in the performing arts has expanded along a path of unbalanced growth. The performing arts sector disposes of an employment mechanism and unemployment compensation scheme which has acted as a lever to simultaneously accelerate workforce growth, functional flexibility, and insurance protection specific to employment in the arts.
