Experiencing Disaster
How to live with disasters? All societies experience periods of extreme fragility following crises. Societies keep traces (monuments, documents, myths, etc.), analytic tools and storytelling that allow us to recount and discuss such events. but hazards escape our grasp. Invisible, stealthy, slow, systemic, creeping.... words, categories, and frames of thought alone are not enough to understand the nuclear, climate and anthropogenic threats linked to the era of globalization. This issue of Communications focuses on describing these events, problematizing them, and providing new insights into the troubles affecting human life.
